"Earth-like" planet found

25Apr2007

Life has been hectic what with the job change, my own business, and the New Georges show, but I had to reference this gem:

This is the first planet we have found that genuinely *could* support life as we know it. Its 20.5 lightyears away. So probably I'll never know if it does or not, but it raises all kinds of interesting thoughts.

Chief on my mind resonates with the doctors first rule: Do no harm. You never know it watching Star Trek, and Battlestar Galactica, but the biggest scary about this is the thought of what human germs do to Other and what another water-planet could do to us.... freaky.

G'night.

Huh?

So, if you make an embryo from a hair follicle and an unfertilized egg, is that still life? Cause I'm kinda shaky on where these lines are going to be drawn in ten years when science has this down to the art of - bailing wire and duct tape...

Joey, hand me that 2lb ball peen hammer, I don't have this chromosone wuite where I want it.

On the flip side, I think it would be interesting to see what these guyg come up with given more and more restrictions....

Ok, what if we give you an Platypus Egg and two pounds of cornmeal - Can you make an Embryo with that, huh?

Not that it isn't something startlingly obvious, but it is nice to be vindicated once in a while. Although his didn't have any pictures of Giant Frogs.

I'm getting awfully tired of seeing politicians praise environmental action with one hand and backstab it with the other.
